THE SECQUEVILLE EN BESSIN WASHHOUSE
A charming reminder of bygone days, when an intense social life flourished. Laundries developed thanks to the 1851 law encouraging towns and villages to install them.
The Secqueville washhouse is a diversion of the Thue river, a tributary of the Seulles. It also has a chimney to produce the ash needed for bleaching.
Descriptive panels trace the history of washhouses in France, and explain how the Secqueville en Bessin washhouse works.
