In October 1701, Antoine Galland, secretary to the intendant of Basse-Normandie, learned of the arrival from Syria of a three-volume Arabic manuscript. Its title: The Thousand and One Nights. And so begins an incredible literary story in which the city of Caen takes pride of place. An hour's lecture indoors and an hour outdoors.
