Concert de l’Orchestre de l’Opéra national d’Ukraine

The destiny of music is always to be at the side of freedom fighters! Eighty years ago, the fighting that began here in Normandy at dawn on June 6, 1944 led to the liberation of Europe.
We thought we had definitively turned the sad pages of war that haunted so many generations. But Russia?s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 plunged Europe back into a mortifying past, and once again, history became tragic. In keeping with its tradition and cultural project, the Caen Memorial has decided to lend its unwavering support to the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom in this year of commemoration!
By inviting the Ukrainian National Orchestra to come to Caen for a unique and therefore exceptional concert, the Caen Memorial wishes to salute the infinite courage of a people who resist, who endure and who fight. And who hope.
The Ukrainians will know that their musicians were marvellous and that they gave the best of themselves on this evening of October 10, 2024, but above all they will remember that at the Caen theater, solidarity was forged and powerful support was born.
Programmed by the Caen Memorial as part of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy.
