Donations poured in from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and all over Europe. But more than that, the collections were being rebuilt through a policy of acquisitions led by Madeleine Dupasquier, the first director of the rebuilt university library. This initiative was encouraged by Pierre Daure, former prefect and rector of the Caen academy, and Julien Cain, administrator of the Bibliothèque nationale and director of the Bibliothèques de France et de la lecture publique. Between local erudition and international openness, the heritage collections of the Reconstruction thus draw the lines of a documentary geopolitics resolutely turned towards Normandy and the Anglo-Saxon and Atlantic world.
Louise Daguet is a library curator. She is head of the documentation resources department at the Service commun de la documentation (SCD) of the Université de Caen Normandie.
