To mark the Caen 2025 millennium, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Caen is launching its first civic exhibition.
A group of students from the Master 2 History program ("Heritage professions: museum and archives") at the University of Caen, accompanied by museum professionals, are invited to select works from the museum?s exceptional graphic art collection
the museum's exceptional graphic art collection of over 50,000 prints.
The students then think about how to present them on the walls of Saint-Georges church, and are responsible for the mediation of their exhibition. Caen au fil de l'eau (Caen along the water) is an exhibition of real and imagined views of the city, from the 16th to the 20th century, following the courses of the Odon and Orne rivers, from the Prairie and along the canal to the sea.
The waterways shape the lives of the local inhabitants, and the engravings in the Fonds Mancel give us a glimpse into the daily lives of washerwomen, merchants working on the banks of the Odon, and the bustling port of Caen. The thirty or so works selected also provide an overview of the city?s main historical and religious monuments: Saint-Pierre church, Saint-Sauveur church, Abbaye aux Hommes, Abbaye aux Dames?
An exhibition presented in partnership with the Musée de Normandie in Saint-Georges church.
