In partnership with Geneva's Fondation Gandur pour l'Art, this exhibition offers a fascinating immersion in myths and divinities through exceptional works exploring the sacred narratives of ancient civilizations.
A journey to the heart of ancient myths
Ancient gods are everywhere, from marvellous bedtime myths to comic books and music. But are they familiar to us? The Par tous les dieux! exhibition invites you to discover the famous and little-known gods who shaped antiquity and continue to fascinate us today.
Par tous les dieux! is a journey into the world of Greek and Roman gods, through over 200 exhibits. In addition to works from the collections of the Musée de Normandie, the exhibition features some 80 works from the Fondation Gandur pour l?Art, and numerous loans from museums in north-western France.
The public is invited to a meeting at the summit of Olympus, with Jupiter, Bacchus and so many other gods who fascinated the Gallo-Romans. Egyptian gods are also included, as they were sometimes adopted by the Romans and Gallo-Romans. How were these gods perceived by Celtic populations who did not feel the need to represent their gods in human form, and in what forms were they depicted? The question of their reception in north-western France is also at the heart of the tour, which features a dialogue between objects from public collections and others from a private collection.
