The Marathon de la Liberté, Normandy Running Festival was created in 1988 with the aim of paying tribute to the events of the D-Day through sport, and running in particular. One of the ways in which the festival pays tribute to the events of the D-Day is through its race courses, which pass through the most important sites of the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy (Juno and Sword beaches, Ouistreham Casino, Pegasus Bridge, etc.).
With over 27,000 participants each year, the event has become one of France?s top 5 running events, attracting an ever-increasing number of enthusiasts with a historical DNA rooted in two universal notions: peace and freedom. The event?s race courses are a perfect illustration of this tribute to history through sport, making the Marathon de la Liberté a wonderful showcase for Normandy.
From June 13 to 15, 2025, the event is gearing up for another colorful edition as part of Caen?s millennium celebrations.
On the program for this sporting and popular weekend in homage to the events of D-Day: a unique range of events enabling everyone to participate according to their level of ability and desire.
