The Belvédère de Ouistreham is more than just a great spot for views, it's a World War II landmark. The concrete structure was built on 9 pillars by the Germans in the 1940s and is part of the Atlantic Wall. It stands on top of a blockhouse and had a 20mm anti-aircraft gun. It shot an English spitfire aircraft down during the German occupation. A German sniper stationed on the belvedere killed a Commando Kieffer soldier who was part of the mission to capture the casino during the Landings on June 6th 1944. It was turned into a vista with a viewfinder table after the war. Head to the top for 360° views of Sword Beach, the famous beach where the allies landed on June 6th 1944.
