For this day with friends, we swap our swimsuits for a helmet, a K-way and let’s go for an adrealine rush ! Even if we love to bask in the sand, there are plenty of other things to do in Caen la mer and its surroundings.
The wind picked up during the day, so it’s the perfect time to try sand yachting ! So, head to the sailing club on the beach of Ouistreham for a little introduction to this emblematic sport of the Normandy coast.
Meet Our Instructor
Meet on the beach of Ouistreham Riva-Bella with our instructor who is waiting for us in front of our floats. He then explains the safety rules and how sand yachting works to manage turns ans speed. You pull on the rope to accelerate and release it to slow down, it’s simple, basic… But in reality, it’s something else entirely !
We play adventurers in a sand yacht
As I settle quietly into my sand yacht, Florence has already started her tour. Even if I hear her screaming, it seems like she’s been doing this all her life ! Comme on, it’s my turn…
After all, it doesn’t sound complicated, right ? As soon as the rope is in my hands, the wind makes me go in the wrong direction. I can’t give up, I get back on the right track, let go of the ropes and off I go ! And because I was overtaken by the children of the club, I really want to take the revenge. As soon as there’s a gust of wind, I’m sure to set off at full speed !
Once the sand yacht is well in hand, we move on to the next step and start a slalom course.
Little by little, I’m getting more and more comfortable and I’m having fun picking up speed in the corners. The sand yachting session goes by at a crazy speed we have great memories of this moment spent with friends !
