The story of Biscuiterie Jeannette began in 1850 with the creation of a small biscuit factory by Mr. Mollier. The idea for the madeleine came from Lucien Jeannette in the first half of the 20th century. The biscuit factory experienced its heyday in the 70s and 80s with nearly 40% of the biscuit market in France.
Numerous resales of the oldest biscuit factory in Normandy led to a continuous decline in its activity. In December 2013, Biscuiterie Jeannette was liquidated and all employees were made redundant. Around twenty employees decided to occupy the factory to prevent it from being dismantled and to look for a possible buyer. This fight proved successful and crowdfunding saved the biscuit factory.
In September 2015, Biscuiterie Jeannette relaunched its new production of high-quality artisanal madeleines. After these few turmoil, the history of one of the oldest biscuit factories in France continues, as does the know-how. Today, the madeleine in the traditional shape of a scallop shell and made with pure Isigny AOP butter is the reputation and pride of an entire region.
